Streamlining registration flows and enabling seamless discovery of premium features
Summer 2024
Product Design Intern
Matt Dawsey (Design Manager)
David Gilman (Design Buddy)
Other designers, engineers, and PMs
As a longtime user of MyFitnessPal, I had the exciting opportunity to join the team as their first-ever Product Design Intern during Summer 2024. During my time there, I worked primarily with the Registration and Premiums team, while assisting our Design Systems team with iconography library work.
MyFitnessPal is a leading health and fitness app that helps users track nutrition, exercise, and wellness goals. It features a vast food database, barcode scanning, and device integrations, supporting personalized plans for weight management and fitness. Premium features include advanced analytics, meal plans, and many more additional features.
As I am currently working on documenting all my work, I unfortunately am not able to share my entire process and ideation at the moment. However, I still wanted to share the final results of my projects for now!
My first project involved redesigning the registration flow, a critical user entry point that includes a quiz to capture preferences and goals, laying the foundation for a personalized health plan. These changes resulted in a 3% reduction in drop-off rates during registration.

I designed a new entry point with different style variations from the ground up to help users learn more about premium features which launched with a 17.3% premium subscription conversion rate through click-through on the entry point.
Big thank you to the design team and everyone else who made my summer awesome! Special shout out to my manager Matt for always checking in with me to make sure I had an enjoyable experience and my design buddy David for all the good laughs and being cool with me for the whole summer.
Designing Involves the Whole Team 🙌While a design might come together in 1-2 days, the process to ship it involves many critical steps, such as: coordinating with other product teams to assess the impact of the design, seeking feedback and approvals from mentors, managers, PMs, and engineering leads, conducting design QA with engineers, and defining success metrics.Sharing Consistently 🗣I also learned the importance of sharing my work regularly to inform others and iterate on designs quickly. In the past, I hesitated to share until I felt my work was “ready.” However, the design team at MyFitnessPal helped me overcome this fear, creating a healthier mindset around collaboration through frequent design-sync meetings.
